Why Are You Here?
Haven’t we all been asking questions recently? Questions like; When will this all be over? What will the new normal look like? Will I have a job to go back to? Am I going to get through this?
And probably some even bigger questions too: why am I here? What is the purpose of life?
So, why are you here? Not just on this page, but on this earth? And where do you look to find your purpose?
It sometimes takes a crisis to stop us in our tracks and question ourselves and our greater existence. Many of the things we have held dear for so long, many of the things we put our faith in, have been shown to be on shaky ground. We have also found that we are not as in control as we thought we were.
But then again, why does it matter? If there is nothing else beyond this life, let’s eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die. And tomorrow we die has become a little too close for comfort these days. But what is it that makes us cling to life, to expect a good life, to seek happiness, love, security?
We were created by God, to be in relationship with God. Anything else leaves us wanting and with a sense of being totally insecure. We drifted away from obedience to God, and have been worshipping everything but God ever since.
It’s a unpopular thought, but we have all been separated from God by sin – the refusal to allow God his rightful place. We will worship pretty much anything; money, sex, power, family, car, youtube influencers, shopping, entertainment, you name it, we’ll follow it.
But this refusal to worship God is, quite simply, sin. It may not seem like a big deal to you, but it is a big deal to God. And he knows what it is costing us every day. Being out of relationship with him diminishes or joy, yes, but ultimately it deprives us of life, both now and forever.
And he loves you so much that he paid the ultimate price. He sent his son Jesus to take your place. Let’s make no mistake here, God’s anger at sin and its destructive power is no joke. A day will come when God will call you to account for the life you have lived. We will all come under judgement. For those who are sorry for their sin, who make the choice to look for forgiveness and to accept that forgiveness through Jesus Christ is theirs, they will live.
Those who don’t will not. Ultimately it will come to that.
So, why are you here? If you came to this page looking for an answer to your worries, here it is. The answer is Jesus. But you need to make your decision yourself. Jesus will not force you. No one can force you. The choice is yours.
God is being gracious to you today. The offer stands today. Now of all times, who knows if tomorrow we will be around to accept the offer?
There is a prayer you can say right now to acknowledge your sin and accept the offer of life in Jesus Christ.
“Heavenly Father, I thank you for your love for me and for your gift of your son Jesus to die for all who have sinned. I now turn to you, to accept Jesus Christ as my Saviour. I ask you to forgive me of my sins and give me eternal life. And I pray, dear God, that you will lead me in your way as I seek your will for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen”
If you say this prayer, be sure to let someone know. Try to contact your local church leader, even by email to the church office. Someone will contact you. Feel free to comment below if you make the decision and pray the prayer and need help.
Every blessing,
